"We put a great deal of time, thought and resources into our graduate training programme. And for a very good reason. At British Sugar, today's graduates are viewed as tomorrow's senior managers, so it makes sense to invest in our future." Michele Rowlands, Group HR Director

Time… thought… and resources. These are the tricks of the trade that fuel our top-level commitment to graduate development and the high expectations we have of our recruits. But this is nothing new. Many of our most senior people are the products of our programme, including Michele.

Read the profiles of some our graduate recruits and it will be clear how trainees are given substantial responsibility from the word ‘go’. This is because we welcome new talent, the fresh ideas they bring and their ability to challenge the way we do things. And when it comes to appointing managers, right up to the most senior levels, we prefer to 'grow our own'. So the training programme is not the end of the training experience, but the first part of a career-long development process.

We offer six distinct programmes, each offering an intensive yet flexible development framework. There are clearly defined training goals. You can also expect plenty of support, including a personally assigned mentor. But at the end of the day, the onus will be on you to drive your own development. Which means you will also have some say in what you do.

All programmes begin with a comprehensive induction to the business and its structure, and the markets and business issues that confront us. This induction is followed by a series of core training modules providing an insight into general business topics and management skills.

After your training programme, you should have the knowledge, skills and credibility to take on a role of significant responsibility.
