Our products

We have an extensive range of standard sugars and sweetener blends, as well as more specialised products. The sugar products and syrups supplied to the retail sector are created by sister company, The Silver Spoon Company, a major grocery business with a leading share of the market. But as well as meeting the direct needs of the consumer, we are also the leading supplier to the food, drink and pharmaceutical industries.

Naturally sugar is our core product, but the sugar-making process has spawned a whole series of associated products which are testimony to our ingenuity and efficiency. Here are a few examples:

• At our largest sugar factory in Norfolk, we have a glasshouse in which hot water and CO2 from the sugar process are utilised by tomato plants to produce around 70 million tomatoes a year – more than anyone else in the UK.
• We have built a bioethanol plant alongside our Wissington sugar fatory which produces 70 million litres of bioethanol each year. Blending all petrol with bioethanol at 5% would reduce UK CO emissions by 3 million tonnes a year.
• The topsoil received with the beet in our factories is carefully separated and conditioned to produce a top-quality, friable product. This is marketed under the TOPSOIL brand.
• Self-sufficient in power generation, two of our sites operate state-of-the-art gas turbines and we even export power to the national grid.
• Having extracted all the sugar from the beet, the resulting material is further treated to produce high-quality animal feed, making us one of the largest animal feed producers in the UK.
